Today I dressed in my finest gown,
turned and twisted hair; pinned high
with a single silver daisy clip.
The time had come,
you’d left for work and today I break
away from your contagious spiteful love.
I search for shorelines, walk for hours
Finally, the salt hits my nose,
I sigh at freedom approaching.
In my finest gown,
walking into oceans never-ending
I close my eyes silently whisper, “no more” ….
