Clarence and Dragonfly

Clarence the Dragon
was feeling rather low,
his friends all went to town,
but Clarence couldn't go.

Clarence had a fever,
and a little cough,
Momma wanted him home,
not "running off."

Staring out the window,
gazing far away
a green and blue dragonfly,
came along to play.

"What's the matter Clarence?
why so you look so blue?
Clarence said "I have a cold"
Dragonfly said "Me too!"

Let me ask my Momma,
and see if it's okay,
for me to come to your
house and for the two of us, to play!

Clarence smiled and said
"what a great idea.
I'll ask Momma for some snacks."
Dragonfly said "See ya!"

Dragonfly soon returned,
with a giant stack
of games, books and puzzles
strapped to his back.

Clarence liked checkers,
Dragonfly liked go fish
they both liked the snacks,
that Momma brought on a dish.

"Homemade pizza, milk,
crispy french fries;
if you finish up your lunch
I have a sweet surprise"

Dragonfly ate the pizza crust,
Clarence ate the rest.
They both ate the french fries,
proclaiming them "the best".

When momma brought desert,
together they both screamed
"yippee! Hot fudge with nuts
and whipped cream!"

Dragonfly and Clarence

washed their hands and faces,

they picked up all the toys

and put them in their places.

Dragonfly waved goodbye

and headed for home

leaving Clarence the dragon,

sitting all alone.

I was sad this morning,

Clarence the dragon thought,

I wanted to go to town,

but instead, look what

I got!

A special day spent quietly,

with Dragonfly, my friend,

with games, good food, lots of love,

and ice cream in the end!
