Archeologists come from the future
seeking to study our African beginnings
frail as finches' bones
where once time turned into ropes
unravelling
in languid spirals
shiny knobby knots
that looked like clouds had kissed them
It rained that ginger morning
(wake up, brother, wake up...)
my duvet prince,
capturing your arboreal dreams
still warm
with maypole butter
and treacle
the light silver-grey deliquescent –
Murillo painted –
ragged clothes, your hair
a crown of brown curls,
the bed huge-hinged
oak-board mottled
with whirls and whorls,
mattress perfume-seeped...
ll
I hug a cold pillow,
mark what I never had,
and call you back
to keep my beginnings

How quickly the future seek answers from the past. The reader is quickly drawn to the work unravelling in languid spirals-nicely drawn. To capture dreams while they are still warm in silver light. Great ending-I hug a cold pillow, mark what I never had, call you back to keep my beginnings. Subtle poetic technique consistently maintain use of the craft.

I don't know what to say; this is stunning. So many words and lines that I really admired.
Beautifully melancholic, my friend. sigh.

This is so very beautiful and so beautifully melancholic, criss. Seems as if i'm reading all the sad poems this morning. Loved the opening lines too...of course the "African beginnings" caught my eye.
I read somewhere that a pillow is also another "brain for dreaming", and yes, perhaps to go back to and to keep our beginnings, our roots.
Loved this one.

Sighhh...I was thrilled enough, just seeing you'd posted a new poem, Crissy~girl. Seeing it as an incredible entry in my contest is ohhh, so humbling & soulful, my Friend. What an amazing writer you are, Sweetie. Good luck in my contest, dear Scribe.
