People tell me to view the world with open eyes
So I open them
People tell me to listen in lie
So I listen
I see death and hatred
I see family and friends turning against one another
I see dreams being broken and jobs being lost
Is this what I was told to see
I hear the news blaring more bad news
I hear screaming with no end
I hear words that can make any one wish for death
Is this what I was told to hear
Why open my ears and eyes if I only see this world at its worst
Why listen if all I can hear is hate
For now I'm just going to go back to bed
Dreaming of a world much better than this

Good observations about the way people act nowadays...
I love the repetitions of "see" and "hear", they really help accomplishing a certain impact on the reader... I don't really know how to explain it, but I think this was really good.
