The haze drifted
Deep on the sunrise
And the humidity
Soaked her clothes with sweat
Her long black curls
Were drenched and lay flat
Her lips crimson with lipstick
Sat dry and burning
Her eyes lulled in the back of her head
As the sweet smell of summer
Flared insider her nostrils
She sat dreaming of a better day
Her toes curled
And her fingers twitched
She sat on her old, paint pealing, porch
With a summers haze
Glowing on her face
It was then that summer took pity on her
And it let rain pour from its skies
The rainwater soaked into the hot dry ground
She smiled to herself
As she walked out onto the grass
And stood in the rain
Heat surrounded her
Cold rain fell from the sky
And graced her hot cheeks
Laughter swelled in her chest
And burst out from behind her lips
And in that moment
She was happy
At peace with the world
Her problems faded away
All in a summer day
