Ultra Violet--ch 2

The next morning I got up and called the girls and asked them to come over so we could practice for the audition.
“Okay lets start from the beginning," I said as I pushed the play button, "And… now!”
We started dancing and it went good for the first four seconds.
“Oww! Sabrena you stepped on my foot!” Angela screamed.
“Sorry Ang.” Sabrena said with a laugh
“Wrong moves Sabrena! That’s not until the next verse!” Angela said, getting back at Sabrena for stepping on her foot.
I walked over and stopped the music.
“Okay….um...Wow! We really need to work on this---Both the moves and you guys getting along while we are doing the moves.” I said staring at all the girls. They were actually paying attention to me except for Sabrena; She was fixing her hair as usual.
“Sabrena are you even paying attention to me?” I asked
“Huh?” We all looked at her. “What? What did I do?”
“Oh my god Sabrena. We figuring out all this crap and you aren’t even paying attention!” said Tiffany.
“Okay lets try this again and try to do the right moves and NOT fight.” Michelle spoke as she walked over to the stereo. “We only have until next Friday which is graduation, then we are going to be in a car for probably week getting to California.”
They practiced all that day and they got through the entire song and another song incase we needed a back up for any reason.
“Okay girls I have to go. I have a date.” Tiffany stated with a huge smile.
“Oh yeah! Have fun!” said Michelle
“Yeah and make sure you tell all of the juicy details when you get back.” Sabrena said.
That night I was at home and doing my homework and listening to Clay Aiken---my favorite---when I received a phone call from Tiffany. I have my own phone line. I got it last month and have been paying for it myself. My mom always had stupid rules. No calls after nine p.m. and only allowed online for an hour in the morning and hour at night. So now i can be on whenever and get calls whenever.
“Hello?” I said as I answered the phone.
“Mindie? This is Tiffany.”
“Oh hey Tiff what’s up? How was the date?”
“Umm..Well…a lot. And the date isn’t what I’m worried about right now.” She said sounding really sad.
“Tiffany what’s wrong?!” I asked impatiently
“It’s Michelle.” She said
“Oh my god! What happened?!” I asked with my voice raising
“She and her mother got in a huge car accident and are both in the hospital. Michelle
won’t talk to anyone.” She said
“Oh my god! Are you at the hospital or at home?” I asked completely
shocked.
“I am at the hospital.” She said
“Okay I’ll be right there.” I said hanging up the phone. I ran down the stairs
And grabbed my coat and keys. Just as I ran out the door my dad yelled to
Me.
“Mindie! Where are you going?" He asked
“I have to go to the hospital. Michelle and her mom got in an accident.” I yelled
to him getting in the car and starting it. The whole sentence was practically
made into one big word.
“Okay call me later, Bye.” He said as I drove away.

When I got there all of the girls were in the waiting room except for Michelle.
“Where is Michelle? Is she okay? What about her mom? Have you heard
anything?” I asked extremely concerned.
“Michelle is in room 205 and still won’t talk to anyone. Not even Tiffany. We haven’t heard anything on her mom Sabrena said.

“Yeah I heard that she wouldn’t talk to anyone. Should I go try?” I asked
“Yeah please. Its worth a try.” She said as she looked over at Tiffany. Tiffany was just staring out the window. She looked like she was in her own little world. She had just blocked everyone out. I have never seen her like this. Tiffany is always happy-go-lucky. She's the Riding in a car with the top down blaring music, athletic type of girl. Not the sad and depressed never talk to anyone kind. Her Michelle are best friends.

“All right I’ll go talk to her.” I said walking away
“Okay. See you soon.” Sabrena said
“And hopefully with good news .” Angela added
“Please Mindie you’re the only one who can help her right now. Good luck.”
Said tiffany suddenly out of her “coma.” Although she didn’t move her eyes
from the window as she talked, I knew she really wanted her friend back. I
Turned around. And looked at her and just stared for a minute and said
“Okay.” When I got to the room I could hear her crying. So I walked into her room and tried to talk to her.
“Michelle?” I asked
“What do you want?” she said startled. “Go away. I don’t want to talk to anyone.” She said as she grabbed some
toilet paper to blow her nose and wipe her tears. And she grabbed a peice of cereal out of a box and threw at the garbage can and made it in. They must have given to her hoping she'd eat it.
“Michelle, you have to talk. Or you’ll be depressed for the rest of your life. And you want be able to go to NSD. That’s your life long dream ain’t it?” I pointed out to her hopefully able to convince her to talk.
“Well...yeah...but…look at me--” She started to talk and I got cut her off.
“Michelle. You need to talk to someone. I’m here right now or if you want I’ll go get Tiffany-“ Just then she cut me off.
“No don’t go get tiffany. I mean I know we don’t talk as much as tiffany and I, and I know we aren’t the best of friends but I want to be able to talk to you. And right now you’re the only person I wanna talk to. I don’t want Tiffany to see me like this.” She said through all the blubbering, sniffing and throwing another fruit loop at the garbage can. It was a little hard to understand her but I figured it out.
“Oh...um...ok. I am not really good at talking but I will try. So what exactly
happened?”
“Well my mom and I were driving home from the mall because she brought me there to show me the outfits she wanted to get us for Ultra Violet and as we were driving home a car of drunken teenagers was driving on the wrong side of the road and it was on a curve so
we couldn’t see them coming. The whole time I was going on and on about how much I loved the outfits and thanking her for buying them. I was babbling; destracting her. When they came around the curve they ran right into us going 75 miles per hour. The front of their car hit the drivers side of our car and now she's in critical condition. That's all they will tell me.”
As Michelle had finished her last sentence she started to cry even more. So I sat on her bed and held her to comfort her. Right when I sat there she came right to me and hugged me. I just sat there and let her cry on me and kept telling her that it going to be okay.

“It’s going to be okay Michelle. I promise. Your mom is a really strong woman and with your help I know she will get through this. You just have to stick with it and keep up your confidence. It will be okay.” I said it over and over again.
Then she screamed, "No its not! It's all my fault! If I wasn't babbling on destracting her, she wouldnt have gotten in that crash! It's all my fault!" Michelle bursted out crying. Not even being able to breathe.
"No, Michelle! Its not your fault! The other people were drunk and not driving on their side of the road. Your mom had no idea they would be there. She was driving as she normally would. You talking or not had nothing to do with it!"

“Hey look at it the good way. A whole bunch of people will be bringing you gifts and pies and cards for sympathy. You’ll be getting spoiled.” I got a little chuckle out of her when I said that. “Okay, come on. You gotta talk to Tiffany. She is worried sick about you. She just keeps gazing out the window like she is in some kind of coma. And right now I think all she wants is for you to talk to her so she knows your okay.” I got up and walked in to the waiting room tiffany automatically knew that I had walked in because she turned her head away from the window…finally.  I told her she could go in and Michelle would talk to her. When she got there we peeked in and looked. Michelle and tiffany just looked at each other for about a minute then they ran right to each other and hugged. I was so happy. I’m so good at fixing problems. Then the rest of us walked in and all huged. It was the happiest part. Then the doctor came in and said that Mrs. Vera (Michelle’s mom) can see visitors now. Michelle asked the doctor if she could go see her mom and he put her in a whel chaor to go but then she stopped and turned the chair around. She wheeled towards asked for a hug.
“Thank you, Mindy. With out you I would probably still be sitting in my room throwing cherios at the garbage. This meant a lot to me.” She said. Then she turned and wheled down the hall to her mother’s room.
When I turned around, all of the girls were staring at me. Especially Tiffany.
She was glaring right at me. At first, I thought that she was mad at me because Michelle would only talk to me, but then she ran to me and gave me a hug.
“Thank you soo much Mindy. You were the only one who could get her to come out. How did you do it? Never mind I don’t want to know. I’m just glad you got my best friend back to me. Thank you.” I really didn’t know what to say but I managed to say something.
“Yeah. Um..you’re welcome..I mean it’s what friends do ain’t it?” I said sort of with a studder.
With a little chuckle she just answered: “yeah, yeah that’s what friends do. Really good friends.”

Any advice?

Sends a chill down ones back! Terrible things happen to people everyday. Very nicely written chapter. Kept my attention (you and your writings are one of the few things that do) Whether is be real life or fiction you are a true friend to all whom you know and care about just like in the story! Looking forward to chapter 3.
