This game of death--we sure do love games--
Cannot possibly be a just one,
But wait!
What's that?
A silver lining?
Though a satirical one at that,
A splendid crimson door has been unlocked,
It leads to the rhythmic beating of liberation,
The glorious screams of gratitude,
The warm tears of joy at our generosity.
It is magnificent, is it not?
This carnal game we play.
We throw mother's sons in battle
And gamble their lives for our benefits.
We put on a poker face
And create a bluff of a pure intention,
When in reality we have no straight flush,
We have absolutely nothing of value,
Such is the value of this war--this game--
Yet we go all-in and sacrifice our own,
And when they call our bluff,
We have nobody to blame but ourselves,
Our own audacious and foolhardy selves.
But we sure feel lucky, we'll take the risk today.
And tomorrow.
No guilt.
No regret.
Oh we do love games.
Shall we play?

I've never heard of a poker metaphor for war. But now that I think about it, it fits really well. Great write.
