Memories

A black mahogany box,

red velvet lined

once held treasures

of a boy adventurer

dreaming about

the mysteries of life.

Author notes

As a boy growing up in a lower middle class family, I did not have much in the way of toys so I used my imagination a lot. I actually had a black mahogany box that I called my treasure chest, which contained all of the remarkable items a little boy could happily collect.

  • I loved this. Having a little boy, I see the treasures of a catseye marble, an empty glass yoohoo bottle, and gumball machine trinkets that mean the world to him. I am aware I am watching memories in the making, and thank you for taking me down the lane.

  • Short, but good. Great statements. Bravo!

  • I never knew what beauty could be found in 20 words.

This tiny little piece made me think back to the many "treasure" chests I have filled over my years...your authors notes are very relatable to me...I didnt have alot, but what I did have I treasured (and still do) ......how the heck did you manage to make me go all sentimental with 20 words?? Great job!

    Excellent Poem

Truly inspiring...Imagination, and Hope, matters a lot when we are left with nothing real to play with. This has in fact taken me back to my childhood years as well. I used to have some imaginary companions too, like many children who love their moments of solitude...Congrats and Best Regards.

  • The can visualize a little boy going through his treasure chest, deciding where he wanted his mind to wander for a few hours. Love Juls
