I am but a long time visitor here,
meant only to observe what man inflicts
as I pass through to see our pain and fear.
We've been so unaware that there is more,
more than tattered flesh bathed in bitter tears.
Do you not know, your body is not you?
Nay, it is but what you wear. . . just for now;
now, while observing bruises black and blue:
lessons meant to guide us back to Father.
Alas, those who understand are so few.
Think not that my garment is without rips,
for it has been torn by abuse and pain;
but, since it is just clothing for this trip,
I realize I've not been touched at all:
for I am a spirit held in God's grip.
As a spiritual being, I feel. . .
each abusive act and bruise inflicted:
I weep for each abuser, when I kneel,
and for each victim. . . knowing both are lost
as they struggle in circles like a wheel.
Know that you, also, are not of this place
and, soon, a new garment will be given. . .
on that awesome day when we see God's face.
But, first, we must praise Him in ALL things
to greet Him amidst stars of heaven's space.
I AM MORE THAN THIS BODY!
I AM A SPIRITUAL BEING WITHIN;
FOR WITHOUT ME, THE BODY DIES.
meant only to observe what man inflicts
as I pass through to see our pain and fear.
We've been so unaware that there is more,
more than tattered flesh bathed in bitter tears.
Do you not know, your body is not you?
Nay, it is but what you wear. . . just for now;
now, while observing bruises black and blue:
lessons meant to guide us back to Father.
Alas, those who understand are so few.
Think not that my garment is without rips,

Lovely!
of that Gold! Yes, we are more than a body & we have been given the spirit of man by our Father who breathed that spirit into us! When we die that human spirit goes back to Him until we are resurrected...oh that's a long story...too long for now. We need to take the best care that we can of this Tabernacle we are given as a loan. We all need to
for one another, victim for healing & for those who've victimized that they also be healed. I need to say well done now & make an exit 'cause I feel a sermon coming on!

I know that feeling of "a sermon coming on!" Get me on the subject and I don't know when to shut up.
That you so much, sweetheart, for all the good words you have added to this poem and many blessings upon you.
Lots of love and hugs, SisBon

Thank you so much, hon, for your very kind, encouraging words. As you say, we are in a waiting room yet action we must perform in order to get home again.

Oh my!!! Bonnie, You speak truth here. So many bruises lately.... so many lessons, and I feel so dense. It is not possible to see with less than spiritual eyes. I know because I keep walking into walls.

Thank you so much for posting this!
Love,
Karen

Sweet Sis! IT'S GOLD
Awwww, thank you Sis for the encouraging review. Having been a way for. . . let's see, how long has it been. Well, over a year, I know: so, I'm really surprised that "Temporarily Black and Blue" won the gold! Even more so since I wrote it on the fly directly online. As you know, I've always written my poetry, then posted it online. LOL!
This does make me wish I could find more time to get back to my writing: I'll have to fill you in when we have time to 'talk.'
Loads of love and hugs! SisBon

Thank You!
Ah, my dear friend, I feel humbled by your huge talent, yet you find my pitiful work "a wonderful verse." Thank you so much; but! it is you that should be thanked for offering such an inspiring contest. It always is a pleasure to write on God's behalf.
Much love in Christ, BonnieQ

Well bless our souls...
GREAT to see you pop in with some heavenly inspiration. This reminds me so much of the webinar that Oprah just had with Eckhart Tolle. Truly, we do have a spiritual connection with others because there you are and here I am... just out of the blue. Connected by a wing and a poetic prayer.

Temporarily Black and Blue
Hey, pretty one! It was so great finding your opinion on my poem! Best of all was hearing from you. Thank you so much for your very kind words and I hope to hear from you again.

You have gone directly to the point of this contest and clearly shown the duality of human life as you see it. There is much value in this, it helps us regard our problems as less fearful, since our lives cannot be threatened in the body. This is full of faith. Best wishes!

Temporarily Black and Blue
Thank you so much, Sandal, for the very kind review. About 8 years ago, I sat in a neighbor's kitchen with other neighboring women for a Bible study. It was concluded by each of us relating what God had done for us when in trial.
My story was one of child abuse, even sex included. When I concluded, our host looked at me incredulously and asked, "How can you talk about that as if it were nothing?"
"Because it did not happen to me..." Everyone gasped, sure I had told a lie. "Let me explain..." then I told them about the garment I wear over the spiritual being that I am.
The next day that neighbor dropped by, saying, "What you said last night took ten tons off my shoulders..." she went on to discuss a similar childhood that, until then, she had not been able to talk about. Healing is now washing through her entire family, including parents she had not spoken with in years.
God is good! And, most gracious.
Much love in Christ, BonnieQ

Bonnie's Back
And I am so glad to see you online and to read your poetry. This poem, as all your poems, is flawless and expertly crafted. The message is one I can relate to - perhaps a bit too much. I took a really bad fall a week ago and I am "temporarily black and blue" and green and yellow! Praise our sweet Jesus that this body is only a temporary garment!
I love you Sis - more than words can say.
