their flight

flutter by

under a light blue sky,

tiny hummingbird and butterfly

search for the sweetest nectar in their garden realm

by scented flowers that overwhelm

their senses as they light

upon site

where sunshine beams so bright

as the hummingbird zips to and fro

and the butterfly carried on soft winds that blow

will land on petals where they can drink

from flowers red and pink,

a delight

for it is quite a sight

to calmly watch this aerial dance

a delightful performance in the early morn

on this lovely day that they adorn

to happen upon chance,

at a glance.

Author notes

Form: Triquain Swirl created by me, rhyme or non-rhyme.

Seven lines with syllables in multiples of 3 as follows: 3, 6, 9, 12, 9, 6, 3

Triquain Chain: a string of 2 to 4 Triquains, a space between each triquain.

Triquain Crown: a string of 5 Triquains, a space between each triquain.

Triquain Swirl: the repetition of the Triquain string that is connected by a 3 syllable line as follows:
3, 6, 9, 12, 9, 6, 3, 6, 9, 12, 9, 6, 3... and so on.

Also, to be more creative, you may add a hidden thought in your swirl by taking 3 or 4 syllables in line 6 of your first triquain in the swirl and link it to the following 3 syllable lines throughout your poem to make a thought summing up what you have written in your poem.

Triquain and Triquain Swirls are always centered.
