Memoirs of the Dead

Contemplating my life gone
If I had played this out well
Never learned to live
Until my rattled hands shake
My pen my bone my ink my blood
Paper walls all around me

Lived and learned too late
We all slip and never fall
Love and never loved
Cannot love until it is past
For all things are here now
And you have no need to miss
But when they are gone
You too are the same

I pray my life ends well now
So as to be the one to have lived
And served example for those after me
For we all take this life for granted
And we all end the same at day's end
Dead and full of regret

Author notes

To be completely honest, I was struck by the quote you have given me, both of them. And as a result, words are scarce, but hopefully this will sum up what I had felt when reading that quote.

Death is a challenge. It tells us not to waste time... It tells us to tell each other right now that we love each other.
