In darkness
a candle shivered,
then extinguished
under the jewels
of his whispers;
from lungs came
dharma, spelled out
in meditation
and truth.
Two souls sat-
mine and buddha,
cross-legged and
eyes dilated
with reality,
which hanged from
a meager tree in
bitter liberation:
this I witnessed and
awoke to, a
creature of the sangha.
It seemed our spirits
trembled together
in the calm breath
of pre-dawn pitch
when, like the skin
of an apple we
came undone and
peeled into the blanks
of Nirvana.

The ending did it for me here - the metaphor of apple skin. Gorgeous work.
