Darkness embalms my tired eyes
as the near vintage light is snatched away by you.
The white house creaks.
As weary footfalls cease,
we, their exhausted employers
climb beneath coils of tender blankets.
Out nocturnal orbs
create the slightest glow
as they reflect the window’s illumination.
Your pallid visage collects the dim beauty
that daylight keeps a secret.
An orange guardian paces the room,
searching for a comfortable host.
His settling frame sinks into my side’s curve.
he obnoxiously buries his sun burnt head into my palm.
An affectionate purring lulls me closer to dreams.
As I approach the edge of my consciousness
My quick beating heart grips me by the eyelids
The soft echoes of your breathing
cause me to shy away from slumber’s arms.
I am afraid to close my falling eyes,
for I do not want to sleep through
a single ventilation symphony.
The sun grins as dawn stumbles upon the night, mischievously,
as light streams, permeating the glass.
Laboriously, my un-persevering eyes open
and unfurl their new black wings.
The fierce cuddly orange warrior,
I feel, has fused himself to my ribcage.
I notice your steady exhales,
and my face radiates a contented smirk.
You and yours hide in the crook of your arm.
I long to retrieve you, to see your bright eyes,
But, your peaceful state keeps me at bay.
You forbid me from knowing your state.
Sirens sound and you shift anxiously awake.
I don’t want to move, I do not want to begin this day.
I could linger here forever,
with you in sight, and this leech like feline.
