My First Photo of a Bear

I watch the way of a bumbling bear
lumbering slow from deep winter slumber.
Grubbing soundlessly his nose to the ground
fidgeting for the good grubs to be found.
He'll eat whatever he can encumber
as he bumbles about without a care.

Fury hair curls thick from winter's scorn.
He is a burly brute though just a black
His pig eyes see me and he grunts a growl.
I wet my pants bleating a strident howl.
The brawny bruin bolts, I don't look back.
I'm breathing deep breaths until I am worn.

The flight and fright pulsates within my heart.
I know that bear laughed from the very start.

Author notes

The is what I call an ABC Sonnet because of the rhyme scheme ABCCBA DEFFED GG Ten syllables per line.

What I like about it is it gives equally to the turn in the second stanza allowing a little more story or expression to be told.

Grubs are worms in logs and have lots of protein.
Good for bears and demented humans lol

  • Cute, I too had to laugh at this. I am reminded of a hiker who was attacked by a bear. she said, " the last thing I remember before the bear attacked me was thinking OH! what a pretty face."

  • I am chuckling with this one Jeff, I must admit and your closing couplet is the clincher.

You have used your nature prompt quite creatively. Alliteration is good as well.

Truly a splendid and unexpected entry. Well done in this round. ~Pamela
