Complicated Purity

A soft whisper is all that lets me know you're still there.
"I love you," it says, and those words seem to echo everywhere.
Everywhere I go, all I can hear is that soft whisper,
It's the closest I've gotten to saying "I love you too."

I didn't quite say it, for that would make me incompetent.
Neither of us expected it, and yet we both knew it was the truth.
We both knew, as we know now,
That the feeling is returned, despite my unwillingness to say it.
I don't want to get in too deep,
But I might as well admit it's too late for that.

So what should we do now?
We both know we've gotten in too deep.
We both know we've dug ourselves into holes we can't get out of.
Love is complicated, love is despair.
And yet love is... what is it?

I feel despair, but joy, and complication, but pureness. It doesn't make sense.
I suppose we'll just have to find out along the way
As we begin our journey to the rest of our lives.
Hand in hand, side by side, but only one heart. Only one soul.
As we walk with each other, that much we both know.
