A glimmer of rebeliousness catches
air as a smile rides its way
across dimpled cheeks.
Barefeet scamper towards the
tangle of trees at the boundaries
of a fenced in yard.
The briars sharpened their teeth,
just for us.
Snipping at legs, catching on the cuffs
of rolled up levi's 501s.
Disappearing in the blanket of green,
spry young limbs swing from branch
to branch.
Winding along with the curves of a babbling brook.
Laughter echos in the splashing water
as it dances over moss covered rocks.
"Who needs paths...."
your voice trails off
into the sweltering, sweet
summer air.
