Did you know?
You were the first person who didn’t walk away from me,
and for the first time I felt trust.
Did you know?
You were the first person from whom I felt unconditional love,
and for the first time I felt special.
Did you know?
You were the first person to really hear my story,
and for the first time I felt listened to.
Did you know?
Yours were the first soft eyes I had ever looked into,
and for the first time I felt seen.
Did you know?
Your hugs were the first gentle ones I knew,
and for the first time I felt comforted, safe and loved.
Just so you know:
I treasure the gift of you in my life,
and my heart could not hold more love
for you than if you were my birth mother.
Just so you know.
Author notes
For my mother figure and mentor, Nicole. I swear she was sent straight from heaven!
This is straight from my heart with love.

I wrote a poem for someone special. I wonder if your mother figure felt guilty for having feelings for you. I wonder if she thought others would not understand her feelings for you. This is how I feel. I read your poem a great tribute to your beautiful mother figure. How did you cope with your feelings for her. Did you feel awkward.. Oh this sounds so stupid.. I want to reach out and love this special person but she is such a far away place a place where I cannot go.. I would if I could. You see I a gay and I know people think I have ulteria motives but I am in a relationship have been for 9 years. I find it hard to talk to my partner because I cant fully understand what is happening. I never had children and she came into my life and I knew for some reason she was the daughter I never had. This sounds mad..I am sorry.
I loved this poem so much...
Much Love ValkyrieNightWeaver..

Hi, I am not sure I understand what you mean when you ask if she felt guilty. I don't think so. It sounds like you are far too worried about your being gay. Of course you know that there all all kinds of different love feelings that we have for those in our lives. I think it is wonderful that you feel that close and bonded with someone. My belief is that life is way too short to hold back how you feel about someone. My mother figure was very moved by the poem I wrote for her. I think it is normal to reach out for something we did not have. I am sure your daughter figure would be touched by your poem. I hope you find the courage to share it with her. Let me know, okay? Blessings, Patty

This poem is very sweet. I really like it. I can feel the emotion so clearly from this one. I think it's a poem that everyone can relate to, because it can be used in almost any relationship. I can personally relate to it with my fiance, he was the first person that I have ever trusted completely.
This is a great write, thanks for entering!

Well now, everybody needs someone like this in their lives to look up to and be seen and heard by. I am glad you have that. This is a very simplistic approach but I do love the repetitiveness of this piece, adds originality. Best to you

I love this and I know how you feel. This is a wonderfully heart warming tribute. Thanks for sharing with me.

I think this is just soooo darn sweet. You don't have to give birth to someone to be their mom and your words prove that. I enjoyed the way this was written straight from the heart and I am sure Mom will too. Thanks for entering and good luck.

Hello Pathwee. A very loving touching tribute to your mother figure and mentor. The value of this poem lies not in the trophies it has or will get but the touching tribute that it is. My regards.

That was pretty good. I liked it. Good luck ont he contest!

You should have at least gotten honorable mention for this piece. I did not realize that I had not commented on it. I have read it three or four times apparently without commenting. That was my slip up. I have read it so much because your childhood situation keeps drawing me back to some of these writes by you. I think I was formulated what I wanted to share and was not sure what I would say. I don't know if this was really personal or something you wrote for another reason like the contest. Even if it was for the contest your life still shines through and that is a good thing because you have life experience to draw form. You are a gifted artist. RC

That is amazing! What a lovely, touching and inspirational tribute to your mother/angel. That is really sweet. Congrats on the honorable win. You deserved at least that. Beautiful. Almost made me cry.
-
Gorgeous and touching! I raised several children that I did not birth, but felt no less for them than my own. You are fortunate to have this angel.

This is so very beautiful. How someone else got the gold is beyond me. It brought tears to my eyes. Just the kind of thing ANY mother would love. You have a wonderful way of expressing yourself with sincerity.

She will be pleased!
This is an incredible loving and inspirational way of honoring and validating this woman's place in your precious life.
Giving really is receiving, and your words convey that with a gracious and respectful love that is second to none.
She will be pleased.

-
Very sweet and touching tribute to your mentor and surrogate mother. The closest thing I have to that in my life right now is my sister (by birth); a wonderful supportive and positive person.
Thanks for sharing this and best of luck in the contest.

Beautiful. I liked the softness of your phrases, the imagery showing how much she means to you. Your love for her radiates through everything that you say as well. Really well done!

Lovely Tribute
I hope you share this with the person you're honoring here! This would be a very fine mother's day gift indeed.

Heart warming, heartfelt, and breath-taking
Oh mom! That is a gorgous poem. Your words were so strong. I felt the connection between you and her. It was absolutly wondeful reading the most positive work of art from you. Truly brings tears to my eyes. If only I could be there for you in this way.
I also read your other poem. If walls could hear?
It was great. I can definently relate to this in a way. The only difference I'm having is that I slept in the same room as my parents. They had a big bed over to the left and I had a small wooden bed on the right. Being as my sister and I were so little, we shared it until our fate.
It wasn't that my mom was mean to us, but my father sexually and mentally, but only to me physically hurt us.
My mother just watched and allowed to happen on the sidelines.
They were abusive towards eachother because they were alcoholics.
I love you mom and you are such a beautiful writer!
Have a great day!!
God Bless you!
