My Cousin, My Soldier

Searching
but found none
all around

Tears flow
down a dirt-streaked
face

Heard of the
many horrors
of war

But never
had he seen
the dead quite like this

Gun slung on
his sweating back
with comrades close behind

Missing family
cousins worry
love awaits his return

In darkness
but hope as well
we pray for his safety

Come home
soldier of mine
my cousin, my friend

My protector
with fun times
as memories

Author notes

Reading this made me tear up. This is amazing and a great dedication to your cousin. He'll be home again soon. Iraq puts people through a lot. I was there in 2007, but he'll be ok. Hugs and I'm here if you ever need to talk...

This is very good. I have a nephew who is a Marine but is discharged now. He was in an ied explosion in Afghanastan and lost 40% of his triceps in his left arm. May you and he be protected and surrounded by the Light.
