Such tragedy befalls your heart
as we stand here in silence
surrounded by souls of long past.
A wispy mist eclipsing sunlight
adds to the deep foreboding
atmosphere of this somber place.
In an orchard of shadows we stand.
Trees of granite reach up from the earth
quenched by the tears of our mourning hearts
as a souls lament is whispered on the wind.

great
It paints a picture in my mind. A dark one. Yet beautiful. And Beauty in darkness is the best kind of beauty. So this poem = epic win.

This is a beautiful write. The imagery is amazing, and the tone you set here is wonderful. Congratz on the trophy...you certainly earned it!

Beautiful. A well earned trophy. I love the placement of the words within the poem as a whole & am curious as to whether this is one that was re-worked, and finessed or just put together in a moment, every word falling into place alone?

Thank you much, Actualy it just fell into place, I was given the prompt "orchard of shadows" and the words just began to pour out. ~Bret~

Wonderful
Very well done. Best of luck in the contest.

Such sadness cries in these words, the desolation of being near someone yet feeling so very far away. The shadows cast are what makes the light so very hard to find again. Just beautifully done. I feel a response coming on lol Love, C
