our eyes met,
from across the room,
and even at a distance,
i tried to be coy.
i averted my eyes,
then asked my friend,
"is he still looking"?
she said you were,
and that people were
"noticing"
some unspoken force
that seemed to be drawing
us together...
before i knew it,
you were at my side
smiling,
then asking
for the next dance.
it was a slow dance,
the song was; "stand by me"
we danced,
then we talked...
we talked for hours,
and i felt as if i'd known you
always-
and in a way i had...
i had seen you in my dreams,
every night of every week
until now,
this one special sunday,
when the rest of the world
disappeared...
so too now, have the years
and after all this time
we still stand, by each other-
there is always a smile
for this cherished memory
or for that someone who asks,
"how did you two
make one sunday
last a lifetime"?
