They said she wouldn't make it
they were right
she fell asleep
and didn't wake up again;
They said I would make it'
they were right again,
it was a slight chance,
but still,
what else did I have,
I gotup and walked away,
away like nothing had even happened,
even though,
the doctors and I knew there had been,
and like everything was fine;
They said he would be okay too,
that itwould be the same,
like with the others,
my mom and me,
they were spreading hope,
like a cheerful disease,
and it worked for me,
but something was different,
somethimg in his voice,
his confedence was shattered,
it was writen,
like a book,
which covered his face intirely;
James went into surgery,
that same night,
and didn't come back out,
the nurses saidit was a freak accident,
the hospital was buzzing,
how could something like this,
just happen with no warrning,
they said the operator was pressured,
they said there was a artery,
which the doctor cut,
instead of the clotted vain,
either way...
he died;
he died that night,
it was September 15th,2002,
it's been six years,
and I still hear him,
I never stopped loving him,
his spirit lingers,
and keeps me safe,
but it was the doctors fault,
wasn't it;
James was only eight,
and never got to live,
a sad thing;
what's worse is,
I lived,
now it seems,
I have no one,
a sad story,
I tell is this one,
it seemsas if thats all it were,
but a tradgedy true it is,
which leaves me here,
only wishing for him,
James..my love so true...

Outstanding
When my sister had her bone marrow transplant -she had cancer- the boy in the next bed didn't make it through his transplant and this poem brought a few memories back. You shouldn't feel guilty about what happened it was a tragic accident. This poem brings home what a precious gift life is. Best of luck in the contest.
