Mary's Tale

She awoke somewhere completely unfamiliar.

It was a dark and stormy night
when Mary had gone to bed.
So no wonder she was surprised
when next she'd lift her head.
No longer was her room around,
as plants covered the floor.
Also where the walls had been,
and long gone was the door...

When Mary sat upon her bed,
and surroundings did admire.
She found she wasn't even in a bed,
but in peculiar attire...

The surrounding plants weren't green of course,
but magenta, purple and blue.
The sky was a deep crimson-red,
and all things had a crystal hue.
Flora stretched farther than her eye could see,
and seeing no way back.
Mary headed off to find
some information she could hack...

Stumble through the trees.
Mesmerised by all she sees -
she does not notice animals,
and eerie silence falls and falls --

A massive lake presented.
A tiny boat prevented
the need to return,
so onwards she learned,
was not the kind of place to be comended.

Through burgundy mud,
her paddle would thud,
and she saw coils of smoke unfurl.
So she raced to the cabin
where something fun happened...
intending to kill Mary discovered a girl...

She saw the child and she froze,
not able to turn away.
She wanted to frighten her,
to see what she would say.
The little girl just stared and grinned,
Mary didn't want to stay.
She'd have to try and fight her,
but the girl wanted to play.

"Take my hand" she whispered,
and the child did just this.
Tore the hand right off,
then giggled as in bliss?!
Mary was dragged into the hut,
and never expected to return.
But luckily for mary,
the child was quite easy to burn...

A struggle did commence.
The girls, not knowing much defence,
ripped and screamed and bit and scratched.
Tore and snarled and at skin snatched.
Pinched and hit and kicked and squealed.
Before they had the fireplace revealed.
A fire crackled merrily.
The girl relented readily.
As she was thrown into the flames,
she screamed out both of the girls' names :
Mary, I am Mary...
and dissipated as water in a drain...

A cold sweat over came her,
not just because she was now really lost.
She had destroyed her only information source,
an enemy, but at what cost?
Confused and alone, she whimpered and fell,
to then through the floor.
Sobbing, she did not realise,
she needn't any more.

Mary sat up on her bed,
drenching in sweat and tears.
Alone and fearful, she had learned -
there's always a way to beat your fears.

Sit
Down
and
Cry.
