Cats in Comfort

Curling tails intertwined,
the orange, the gray pillowed in sleep
whiskers a twitter with scents and sounds
of their owner's human existence
they breathe in the quiet, with kitty reserve.

Sunshine on tails and speckled on feet,
they dream of birds, mice, and fish
caught in their nets of hooked claws.
Rolling over and twisting their waists,
the purring of bodies, the engines turned on,
their fur softly whispers their names.

Opening their eyes, tiny cat grins light up,
they mew at their friend who is there,
and lifts them up to gather some love,
a mingling of fur and hair rubs.
Kittens romp and play in every room
until supper, when greedy bellies are stuffed.

They lick up the food on faces and paws,
their wise eyes reflecting bright minds,
as they settle down on the couch,
to talk about the beauty of stars.
