The Storm

The storm clouds roll in,
And the rain pours down around me.
Lightening fills the entire sky
The thunder smothers my cries.
Yelling, pleading for you to come save me,
But the noises are deafening.
Just when I am about to give up hope
I hear a faint whisper
Drifting across the wind.
Peering around, trying to find you,
Yet seeing no one around.
Than I hear it again,
It's whispering words of peace and comfort.
So sweet and comforting,
Like a caressing touch.
I follow your voice into a shelter of a rock.
Though the wind is still roaring,
And the storm is raging on,
You keep me safe.

I hear your voice again.
Minuscule and quiet, yet spoken with authority.
You speak peace once again,
This time to the storm.
Gradually the rain stops,
And the clouds roll back.
A new day breaks.
Gracefulness and beauty paint the sky,
As the sun and a tapestry of colors come together like a piece of art work.
Wondering how I could have doubted,
I stand there amazed of not only the peace which surrounded me
But also the peace that was within me.

Author notes

This poem is about how a person has so many life issues bearing down upon them and how they see no hope. Yet, God keeps them safe, while they are going through it all and later on He clears away the issues, and not necessarily taking it away when it first happens. We have to go through the pain in order to come out of it strong and trusting in God.

Thank you very much for your entry. I loved the separation within the poem, indicating in separation between feeling nothing and feeling God's presence, I found it lovely.

    Good luck ing the contest
