You can't

You come into our lives
Breaking our sweet serenity
Trying to destroy
Everything I hold
As if it's yours.

You come in
With an arsenal of weapons
Culminating in those 5 words
Words that cut deeper into me
than any knife could, ever.
I gave birth to her.

Well guess what?
Congratulations. You can reproduce.
Anyone can do that it seems
Except me, but maybe,
just maybe,
I have something you don't.

I'm a MUM. I brought this child up.
I may not have brought her into
this world. But I brought her up.
And hard as you try,
You cannot change that.

You can try and take her from me
The one thing that matters to me most
more than anything else on Gods earth.
But you can never take away what I have done
She will always remember I'm her mum.

So come with your presents, your parties and drinks
Come take me on, try and make yourself seem good.
Take her, and a part of me dies,
but I will always be better than you.
And never forget... you can never truly be her mum.

Biology matters... but at the end of the day
Nurture wins over nature, and I nutured her.
She is what she is, because of the time I put in.
And she knows she is safer here than with you.
You can win battles, but you will always lose the war.

She is MY child.
