Brilliant song
drifting through the trees,
orange flashing and swerving
through the tossing leaves.
Flutter of wings
against the cool autumn breeze,
with the sun crawling across the sky
warmed by the burning rays,
lands on a solid branch
to finish the afternoon song.

Thank you very much for your entry to the contest. I think you did a wonderful job describing this bird without using it's name. I like the line, "orange flashing and swerving through the tossing leaves"
The Baltimore oriole was named after Lord Baltimore, an Englishman who founded the Maryland Colony. The Baltimore oriole spends most of its time in Central and South America and breeds in the eastern part of the United States and Canada. The oriole builds its nest up to 90 feet off of the ground in large trees and in shady places.

This came out very nicely! Take the name out of your author's notes, though, quick! I love these guys and their hanging nests - it was my pick. Good luck in the contest.
