A Major Leaguer

Missing image
A major leaguer
all decked out
in orange and black,
must be a Tiger...Not!

I'm not wearing blue
so don't look for me
in Toronto!

I'd blush if people thought
I came from St Louis!

My Halloween colors
delight people
in New England!

They really know how
to make a Bird feel Special!

    Big League!

This is so cute & funny Dennis! Made me smile. Very clever going with the colors of the teams [I'd never know 'em!] & comparing them with the bird colors! Love the way you tied in the colors of the plumage with New England fall! Bravo. You deserved the gold!

I liked are you wove this poem together with baseball. Very original. You did a great job. The photo enhances your poem and enhances the bright colors of the oriole.
The Baltimore oriole was named after Lord Baltimore, an Englishman who founded the Maryland Colony. The Baltimore oriole spends most of its time in Central and South America and breeds in the eastern part of the United States and Canada. The oriole builds its nest up to 90 feet off of the ground in large trees and in shady places.

You're right - these are New England colors! What something from Baltimore was doing this far north, I never understood but the glimpse of the bright orange was always a delight. Emily Dickinson wrote many poems about these birds.

A very good write. Imaginative. Good imagery, flow and tone. Vivid descriptives. I like how you write from the bird's perspective. Well done and much enjoyed. Best wishes in the contest.

Liked how you brought the ball teams into this poem, tip toeing all around and not mentioning the name of the bird at all.

lol...this is delightful! I really enjoyed reading this. I didn't do a great job, but I wanted to be a part, plus I like learning about birds. I knew the bird strait away, but to write a poem is very hard. You did great. Good luck.
