sleeping among the covers
remembering way back when
when life meant death
and love meant hate
as the cuts run away
the scars come to me
they burn away with memories of hate
they blurr the thoughts of reality
they remain for life
they remain for eternity
only to linger in mind
and remind me of the pain
but survival is so blissful
to know you stayed
to realize you made it through
it brings back hope
hide the truth of your arrival
show only what they want
they believe what they think is true
fine by me
someday when all is gone
you shall remain
someday I shall look upon you with confusion
only you shall know your secrets
remembering way back when
when life meant death
and love meant hate
as the cuts run away
the scars come to me
they burn away with memories of hate
they blurr the thoughts of reality
they remain for life
they remain for eternity
only to linger in mind
and remind me of the pain
but survival is so blissful
to know you stayed
to realize you made it through
it brings back hope
hide the truth of your arrival
show only what they want
they believe what they think is true
fine by me
someday when all is gone
you shall remain
someday I shall look upon you with confusion
only you shall know your secrets
Author notes
"Scar tissue has no character. It's not like skin. It doesn't show age or illness or pallor or tan. It has no pores, no hair, no wrinkles. It's like a slip cover. It shields and disguises what's beneath. That's why we grow it; we have something to hide."

I liked this. I feel it did justice to the prompt and showed what it meant through a poem. I feel it could have been a bit stronger, though. There's something about it that I really like, but for some reason I can't quite pick it out. Well, thank you for entering, and good luck
