across a country of red and white,
changing but still the same
summer green swaying,
basking in the glory
of natures light
a plethora of color
falling gently,
igniting passions of a nation
to lay silently amid
winter's snow,
resting peacefully
awaiting a new dawn
buds bursting
in an abundance of pride,
cycle of life complete
each province awash
with its own arboreal splendour
but united as one,
under the Canadian flag

Canada claimed a piece of my heart when I visited this magnificient country last year. My sister-by-heart 'everhopeful' now has a little koala charm on her keyring and I have a Canadian maple leaf charm that goes everywhere with me attached to my cell phone.

Each charm represents something or someone special in my life. The maple leaf just completed it. The poem flowed from my fingers easily. As I said in my AN's Canada is a very special place. Hopefully I will return there soon. Juls

Ah, that's cool that you actually have this charm. This is lovely and Canada is a special place. I have been all across it on more than one occasion and I grew up very close to the border of Quebec. Best of luck to you in the contest.

I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with my maple leaf!
I grew up on a "Maple Meadows" and we tapped the trees and everything. They're practically all gone now though.

Go ahead and write away. Please remember to put your own charms in your author's notes.
Can't wait to read.
