An eastern chorus frog, I sing -
my call, it-it, penetrating
the thickets dense where I stay cool
within the shallows of a pool.
In lowlands, marshy swamps and glades
uninterrupted by the shade,
full sun's reflected off my frown
of russet and verona brown.
I have a stripe that lines my back
of chestnut brown, faint spots of black
on either side; a chamois band
around my upper jaw extends
beyond the stripe in warmest buff.
Though shy, my cry betrays my bluff.
