Standing in the Rain

The rain pours down like soft tears;
The sky is dark and gray;
I look up at the cloudy sky
And feel the stormy spray.

You're standing right beside me
But suddenly you laugh;
You run out in the rainfall
And tear my heart in half.

To fix it, I must join you;
I don't want to get wet,
But watching you waiting for me,
I very soon forget.

I leave our small, safe shelter
And giggle with delight;
The rain dances around us,
But everything's so right.

You catch me as I come close
And hold me near to you;
Your lips brush ever gently 'cross
My cheek; I blush anew.

And then inside the rain's cascade
We simply stand as one,
Wrapped up inside each other's arms
Until the rain is done.
