Some called him a prophet, and others a dead loss
He'd stand on the corner with his bible and his cross
Preaching from the gospels and quoting from the psalms
But what really ruled his life left the tracks on his arms
He was looking for Jesus in his heart
But the monkey on his back made the journey oh so hard
He'd start to climb but it seems that every time
He'd slip and slide all the way back to the start
Sometimes he'd go to church but he'd leave halfway through
It would bring back the panic attacks that left him confused
And there was always somebody with something to kill his fears
His road of good intentions would always lead to tears
He was looking for Jesus in his heart
But the monkey on his back made the journey oh so hard
He'd start to climb but it seems that every time
He'd slip and slide all the way back to the start
He was looking for love or a reason to believe
But everyone he ever trusted would just get up and leave
Its hard to have faith when you've always been betrayed
And when the going got too tough he'd always take the easy way
He was looking for Jesus in his heart
But the monkey on his back made the journey oh so hard
He'd start to climb but it seems that every time
He'd slip and slide all the way back to the start
What did you think
