Tucked under the baby blanket
covering a ballerina doll
that danced every day,
until pirouettes were replaced
by the printed notes that once called
her dainty feet to swirl
at magical balls and promenades,
until dusk called her to rest,
beside me each night.
Scales and stretches of fingers
entwined ivory and mahogany keys,
that grasped for mastery over ancient tunes.
Childhood dreams faded into mists
of another life on the closet shelf,
rarely glimpsed as the door opened,
and a quick glimpse for apparel
disturbed her hibernation from my life.
Dusty memories carefully packed
with life’s belongings long forgotten,
as adulthood moves far from once was,
carefully wrapped to journey with me
miles from my childhood’s home,
the ballerina’s eyes smile for the future,
knowing I will one day have her dance
for my granddaughter.

Beautiful work
Oh the dance of life if nurtured is a blessing in return

This had such an enchantment yet a subtle feeling of sadness and longing also. These lines grabbed my attention the most "Childhood dreams faded into mists
of another life on the closet shelf". very well versed, best wishes to you.
