Mommy Time

Walking up and smiling at me,
she says "Gah dada woo cah ee".
Waving her hands for me to see,
she proudly gives them both a squeeze.
The sign for milk, I guess that means
that once again, the babe's hungry.

Her arms go up, "ah ah ah ah!"
I pick her up, "ma-ma ma-ma!"
The shirt goes up, "mm-ma! mm-ma!"
She helps me to undo my bra.

Giggling with joy, her mouth goes wide,
two hands to guide my teat inside,
she sucks greedily to provide,
milk that she wants to be supplied.
When not fast enough to satisfy,
she very gladly changes sides.

She grabs the other, "Meara, OW!"
and tweaks the nipple, "Stop that now!"
a muffled giggle, my wrinkled brow,
she likes it, cuz she's not allowed!

With her mouth full, she tries to speak,
a stream of milk flows down her cheek.
I assume that she offers critique,
explaining lactation technique.
The nipple escapes, and her mouth seeks
to catch it's swollen, milky peak.

Too soon it's done, "mm num mm num!"
her belly as tight as a drum.
Climbs from my lap, and looks for some
trouble that might prove to be fun.

She's getting big, and soon I'll find,
she's too old for this "Mommy Time".
But that thought's for another day -
Right now, she says, it's time to play!

Author notes

My daughter is 19 months old, still nursing, and I know I'll miss it greatly.
And, I know the last stanza doesn't fit the form, but I had THE HARDEST time making something that worked, so it stays!

Honey, the last stanza, was amazing!
You made it fit so wonderfully
To know the feeling of "mommy time"
    I wish I could know
    I have had 17 miscarriages since I was 15
    That was 11 years ago.
    A child and mother moment
that no one can take away from you
    It's a special feeling I'm sure
    Wonderfully done my darling
    very beautiful indeed!
    The picture is as beautiful
as the poem that speaks such beauty.

    Much Love & Respect

Cute poem. I remember weaning and it was heartbreaking to give up that bond but it had to be done. Thanks for sharing
