Critters In the Creek

1
Watching the old crawdad
float with currents
the huge claws reach out
The tail flickers weakly.
His armor grown pale.

2
Periwinkles crawl on rocks
Their sediment shells
drug behind them
Antenna sticking out
with legs until  I scare them

and they hide in their home.

3
Water striders float at ease
willing to let currents
have their way with them.

4
Spirals made in still pools
the water snake
Swirls faster
as I follow behind it.

5

Scintillations of minnows
In the shallows depths
Escaping my looming form.

6

Wet and tired

I lie in the grass

next to the stream

letting the sun

dry my clothes

as eyes grow heavy

and I dream

what a young boy dreams

  • Remembering the critters

The descriptions of the critters was detailed and to see your memories as creatures swept along in the currents of life is pretty refreshing. The metaphors and creativity of your poem were done well. Thank you for entering, but because the first line was not "I remember when", I cannot advance you to finalist. Great poem, however!

I love the vivid imagery and your choice of vocabulary. I'm not sure I completely understand the poem but I enjoyed what I did understand and I wish you the best of luck in the contest
