A fire was raging in my heart,
Love's embers still kept burning,
and though we two were far apart,
for you my soul was yearning.
More than thirty years have passed,
and I often think of you.
Your spell of love on me was cast;
it lies unbroken and so true.
Though together, we could never be,
we had too much at stake;
had separate lives and neither free,
sad farewells, we had to make.
I hope she has forgiven you,
for in you she put her trust.
My hopes and dreams I bade, adieu,
as they crumbled into dust.
Please tell me what you think
