Upon my left there stood a soldier
Sadness in his deep blues eyes
For in the casket lied his brother
As he looked to cloudless skies
Many gathered to release him
To the heavens Golden Gate
And the prayers were warm and tender
Praying that He'd know God's grace
And as I look upon this soldier
I spied a tear upon his cheek
And thought of friends long gone before him
Those very brave, for we the meek
And through God's eyes there came an angel
Beautiful ,like days sunrise
And I see him by that soldier
Off to heaven through God's eyes

Thanks for sharing this sad but beautiful write. Having three sons now in the Marines and one in Iraq for the second time I could so relate to these feelings of losing them. Good luck my friend and peace be with us all. love and hugs Theresa

Thank you for your recent read and comments on my poem Firefly. How did you stumble on it? I know what you mean about so many sexual poems....I filter them out. You can do that if you want to.
This is a lovely write. I was married to an Air Force career man. He retired over 2 years ago, so did our marriage. I have a fondness for poems about military.
Well done poet

Well Cheryl
I just wander thru the pages of poets on AP. As I see it about 90% write about sex and it is all the same in the end. I like poems that say something and yours did. Sorry about your marriage but your talent is there my friend. And ty for the read and comment.
