but the battle is lost
My son in Iraq, fighting
but at what cost?
Listening to that song
playing on the radio
It stays in my thoughts
and follows me wherever I go
Always afraid of a letter
or a knock upon my door
Living on the edge, emotions
chilling my bones to the core
I am just a mother
who prays on bended knee
For my son to come home
in one piece, free
Until then each time I hear
"If Your Reading This"
My heart skips a beat, tears falling
sinking further into the abyss
Author notes
option #2 song I chose is Tim McGraw's "If Your Reading This"
30.) tim mcgraw--if your reading this
When I hear this amazing song I always end up in tears, my son Josh is on his second deployment to Iraq and I am always worried that he will be killed. This song really hits home with me. I am dedicating my poem to my son Josh and to all the military everywhere.
Picture above of my son Josh while he was here on his last visit about two years ago. The border is of a picture I took while we were on a bridge crossing into Happers Ferry WV with Josh.

I felt really sad reading this. I myself struggle to understand what will ever be achieved for these sacrifices, and whether it's worth it.
This is a lovely write, and focuses on the song.
And also, Tim McGraw... is my favourite singer. Even though nobody from England seems to know him!
Good luck in the contest. -
I can only imagine the anxiety it causes you as a mother to deal with this. I have 2 sons myself and I'm not sure I could be as strong as you. I wish you all the best. Nice tribute to your son..blessings, Patty

Your pain lays heavy upon my heart
he is a brave young man and I am proud of him for the courage and the honor he holds...I will hold your hand my sister as we shall both wait for his safe return to you

My prayers are with you my sweet friend. It has to be hard for you. My daughter was in the Gulf but since she was in the Navy, she remained at sea. She is out of the Navy now. I still worry about all the Men and Women still there fighting. I wish you love and warm hugs, always...

Dearest Tawk
I will continue to pray for Josh and you and your family. I didn't know he was still in the war zone. I somehow thought he was sent back to the States. I will wrap you all up in my prayers and ask the Lord to reunite you all again and send Josh home for a visit, along with many of our troops. Where does the time go to. Has it been 2 years since he came home. God bless you and your family.

Eased its way into my heart and reminded me that brave young people are within the grasp of the dark powers. I will pray for my grandson until he is safe home with you. God bless him for striving for freedom!
