My Ocean

Fear overtakes me
briefly overpowering my senses
and like a wave splashing its foam upon the seashore
slowly slips back
into the vast ocean of my existence.

Thoughts bubble to the surface
and pop in the sunlight
that is God protecting me
from the ocean's dark and murky depths.

Fellow travelers on this sea of life float by
Some, pulled into my vortex, stay a while
While others drift in and out like the tide.

Beware the lurking shark!
Smelling blood and fear
ever ready to attack.

Luckily while floating on this sea of life
I've become skilled at riding the waves
                      weathering the storm
                      and protecting myself from attacks.

I've gathered the tools to help me...
Meditation on my life raft has made me mindful
and I rarely make mistakes now
that put my life in danger.

I recognize enemy ships
from miles away
and steer clear of anything
that threatens my happy existence.

Looks like it's time to batten down the hatches
                        pull in the sails
and prepare for the impending storm
and I'll say a prayer before bed tonight
that God will see me through to the brighter shore.

Please tell me what you think

Too bad there are all those submarines that come sneaking up on us. But God will see us through it all. Great poem.

I think I have the correct radar system now to see when those subs are comin' at me.

      Let's hope so...
