Behind the mask,
And the strong exterior,
Sits a small child,
As easily hurt as anyone else.
But she don't let people see that part of her,
For fear that they will think less of her.
Behind the mask,
Lies someone who's heart,
Is as fragile as a glass angel,
That can shatter if thrown away,
Few people have seen the real her,
The one who is weak.
Behind the mask,
Is someone who is terrified,
Of being alone,
And someone who is terrified,
Of being abandoned again,
By the ones she loves.
Behind the mask,
Is a girl who loves,
But only shows it to a few,
And afraid all the time,
That they will shun her,
For being weak and fragile.
Behind the mask,
Is a ocean of tears,
That have yet to fall,
Built up over the years,
But never spilling over,
Shes scared to let people see her cry.
Behind the mask,
And quiet reserve,
Is someone weak and scared,
Someone lost in this world.
Someone trying to keep herself hidden,
From anyone who notices her.
Behind the mask,
Is a girl scared to try,
Scared to let someone in,
After the pain love offered,
In her dark, painful past.
She has yet to truly FEEL.
Behind the mask,
Are eyes so pained; so hidden,
In the deep blues and gold,
That no one sees her soul.
Who will see it now,
And save her soul from pain?
Behind the mask,
Is someone wanting to love,
So much that it hurts,
But scared to let someone in,
And see her true self;
The vulnerable girl behind the mask.
Behind the mask,
Is me.

"Behind the mask,
Lies someone who's heart,
Is as fragile as a glass angel," this line is filled with imagery and feeling. Glass angels are indeed very fragile as are hearts. Thank you for entering. Along with the music of Rod Stewart ... well, my eyes are tearing up. Thank you for entering.
