One Afternoon In A Summer Of Love

Ommm…

Crack-crack-crack-crack!
Ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta!
Pop!
Hare Krishna! Hare Krishna! Krishna!
Krishna! Hare! Hare!
Crack-crack-poppa-crack-crack!
It is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius –
and the first movement of someone else’s
afternoon firefight delight symphony
a click or two down these hills
along the rice fields
where the river moves
like chocolate.
Everybody’s talking ‘ bout
revolution, evolution,
devolution, slick solutions –
Crack-crack-crack- ta-ta-ta-ta-pop!
All we are saying
is give peace a chance –
Roger your last transmission.
Fire mission coordinates:
Yankee Lima 3.6
Romeo Alpha 4.2
Hare Rama! Hare Rama! Rama! Rama!
Hare! Hare!
Fire one round H.E.
Ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta!
All we are saying…
Fire for effect!

Om mani padme om.

Thank you for your entry to the contest. Your poem took me instantly into the war. I like the interweaving of the words of the music of the times with the description of the zone - in particular, /the rice fields where the river moves like chocolate/ perhaps the only positive image in the poem. The strobe effect of the words, interspersed with the sound of firing, must be very like the conditions of the time and place. The peace chant sounds eerily through the heavy explosives. No afternoon delight here.

Thank you for the contest, for remembering a poet warrior, and for your penetrating comments.
