The sea and I meet often, come storms, wind or rain.

Growing up, Dad by my side, he baited the hooks
with a ‘Uni’, style lecture, telling me about it all.
Eventually I gained some respect for his words.

Came an age I started thinking
Maybe, just maybe I want to go fishing…

Friends gathered round rod in hand and
drinking down a slab of beer, conversation
flowed yet it never crossed our minds, talk was
the explanation for the lack of fish caught.

I grew and moved away from that scene.
One day discovering pure serenity in
casting out on my own.

Even today with waves thrashing about,
rain threatening in heavy clouds above head.

Donned my raincoat, went out and faced it.
No matter what comes down on me
seeking inner peace, on occasion I strike gold,
ever so fortunately finding it.

Heading home with an empty bucket
but
who cares, tension is gone for now
and I smile, as home gets nearer.

SO the picture really did actually inspire these words for me, even though a picture of a guy in a stormy type thing fishing etc...this was what came for me, some inspiration from my own experiences etc..and some of incorporating the feel of the picture as well..Hope I pulled it off and it flowed from start to finish well..if not may edit before closing, so let me know lol

I, too, was inspired to write about my dad. Fishing can be such a bonding experience. The quiet comradely, the joint meditation and yes, the conversation.

You did a good job of illustrating the influence our fathers have even after they are gone.

    Good luck. ~ Joyce

Yes, I think it flowed quite nicely. I really enjoyed reading this. It reminded me of my own memories from fishing with my Dad and how I have carried it on in my life today. Nice job, and thanks for entering!

Well done on this darl....I loves me fishing, yet I also see this whole thing as a metaphor for growing up and going it alone...
