A Love Enduring

Fields of roses bathed in red
sweet lonely child lays down his head
his dreams are empty, void of love
his family's gone, they're up above

His mother died while giving birth
father soon followed into the earth
feeling lost and almost broken
he prays to God with words unspoken

Tears rain down upon parched petals
but in a moment his sadness settles
for from his misery he sees
the roses arch to kiss his knees

Feeling warmth and gentle light
a velvet touch wraps him tight
soft lullabies amid the swaying grass
tell him mother's here at last

I am glad this ended on a happy note. I would hate for such a beautiful picture to spawn a sad thought. Very well written. Thank you for sharing in the contest.

This is very poignant and sad yet handled so tenderly it brings comfort to wrap around the loss.

    'Feeling warmth and gentle light

soft lullabies amid the swaying grass
tell him mother's here at last'

The tone and touch of this poem is sweet and sensitive suggesting that hope and love will continue despite the pain. Well done
