Bernanke's Hanky Panky

Missing image

Bernanke Errs

Wall St.’s Turmoil Sends Stocks Reeling

Bernanke's hanky-panky
miscalculations cranky.
reduces rates for yankee.

With economics wanky
Wall Street, once brash, sleek, swanky,

sees bonuses asea.

.

Bearded wonders lanky
are sure to break the bank we
must turn towards with 'thank ye !'
for subprime loans now manky

with whose rates few agree.

.

Thus Freddy Mac and Fanny

Mae may be acting whacky,

Fed window back-to-backy

is looking all too tacky

bankrupting Indymacky.

Priority economy

lacks credibility,

miracle monopoly

needs crisis therapy.

.

We'll pull out white flag hanky,
illusions sank, at sea, see
who can blind eye turn when we
are mortgaged to the Chinee ?

Stagflation's crack-a-jack fee

recession may accompany.

.

Crude oil's crude swings defy glee

as floods drown Missisippi,

dykes down, levées leave débris

demand outstrips supplies - see

consumer sighs, price steep be,

dollar's demise spells double jeopardy.

.

Greenback to front has tanked, free
trade turns raid, quite frankly
draws blank check drawing blank we
could do without, smells rankly

.

Greenberg has said how sadly

he sees recession badly

affecting those who madly

see withdrawn guarantee

for Lehmann, A.I.G.

and WaMu we'll soon see

like Merrill lynched to be

blind alley bye-line history.

.

Said burning Bush "I ran ! flee !
I wreck but little reck, ah me !
I rack but fear attack flea

awaiting verdict to be

dispensed by Lethe history.

.

Autonomy's in Cheney,

and Rove-in-I's been sacked key
official rats jump boat, knee

begin to bend with lackey,
bushwhacked by rank malarkey.

so much here is said about feds in the red
that dollar gets smaller each day
and no one the wiser would question a miser
as long as there's prophets to pay
for the sum of some money, most shrewd

inflate it then bake it, eventually take it
and even black oil looks less crude
when it burns like a pocket of change

through this commerce and casual trade
keeping track of the greenback and cash
but it's mostly just much of the same

and a lot like all fruits in this jungle
planted deep before pruned and or sprayed
    squeaky clean, of their substance
in case any ape should grow clever
or wise to this monkey parade

The seeming whackiness of the words
    reflects the attitude of those
    "minding the store"--an anything goes
    mentality, that revealed, in truth
    NO ONE was really in charge;
that there was no well-thought-out plan
except the one filed under "greed."
And would you have believed in April
how much worse it would be
    in the end of July?

    Great crafting here!

    Certainly different

It's difficult to write in an AAAA AAAA AAAA, etc form. You did a good job. Also made your statement. Kudos to you on a good write

  • A great write here Jonathon, you certainly hit the nail on the head with this, I wonder who will pick up the debt though?

  • Wow, most excellent, indeed, my friend. Imagery, rhythm and rhyme are just fine. Reminds me of the T-shirt I'm wearing: "Who's Really On Welfare": Vertical bar graphs comparing various areas of corporate welfare with the much lower amounts paid out to the less fortunate families and individuals here in America. The statistics are out-dated (1995), yet the principle remains the same. Corportations get more govt welfare than what is given out to solve social ills: such as homelessness, social security, and other govt programs for families and individuals.

This is a great piece, and I really enjoyed the humour you captured in it's words. I agree with much of what you said, jesting or not. Wonder what would happen if everyone stopped spending money for one full day. No dinning out, no gas, not shopping of any kind. Wouldn't that play heck on the market...great work

Wow, what a ride! I loved it. Those "odd bills" and stanzas represented well the odd international finacial playground American buisness men have created by outsourcing all of our manufactoring. Funny how recession appears when all the jobs are shipped overseas leaving Americans unemployed. Congrats!
  • Good poem ...

but I fail to see how it applies to this contest.
