The bucksin mare
flew to the fence,
her master waited there.
She raised her head,
her heart full of love
and willingness to obey.
Her master,
a greasy man,
jerked the bridle over her face,
the sharp bit cutting her sensitive mouth.
She tasted blood,
hot and salty.
He threw the saddle
onto her golden back,
not caring for how it landed.
The black and purple crop
that the mare's master held
flew to her shoulder many times,
so many times.
Her coat now gold and crimson.
If he had just asked,
clearly with kind words,
she would have done as he bid
with love in her heart.
He didn't speak her language,
nor she his,
so now she is
in her stall,
head drooping low,
eyes crying,
heart dying,
mind drowning
in questions unanswered.
Every day her master would take her out,
beat her,
"break" her,
'til she could win him ribbons.
He'd leave scars on her perfect coat
just becuase she didn't understand.
He took her love,
her trust,
her friendship
and exploited it
to his own selfish needs.
Now the mare is scarred,
for her love was exploited.

Author notes
This is about a mare who only had love in her heart, but her cuel master did not understand so he beat her into submission. I know it's kind of dull, but it was inspired by a piece of art I did in school also called Exploited Love.
Does this sound poetic enough?

It doesn't sound dull at all! This is a very sensitive piece about a subject that is often overlooked. Sadly there are men who take pleasure in breaking the spirit of others, be it animals or people. Love and trust are gentle things, they don't understand such brutality and suffer the consequences. Let us hope in another life karma repays such cruelty.

This is amazing, I love the emotions and ideas in this. Very sad, but very powerful, I really enjoyed reading it. I don't think it's dull, I liked it, especially the title and how it ties in with the poem.
