This Day

My God...
Thank you for this day of menacing clouds,
blocking the warm sun from my weary eyes.
Thank you for this bitter cold
cutting into my bone,
and this frigid rain,
which saturates my skin,
then crystallizes into icy thorns.
Thank you for this
fierce, punishing wind,
burning every bit of flesh left exposed
and piercing through my many layers.

I thank you with every fiber of my soul,
for if you had not blessed me with this
dark
frozen
rainy
blustery
day...
I would have no day at all to enjoy.

Author notes

It is always so easy to give thanks for the miracles and immense blessings in life, but I like this poem because it expresses my deep belief that even a "bad" day is still a blessing.

    Thank you for your entry

Yes it is difficult to see the blessings of God through the storms of life, but they are there if we seek Him in all things. Good luck in the contest and thank you for offering prayer.

    God Bless

Any day we wake up and we're still breathing is a blessing. I loved the thoughts you expressed here.

I truly believe that even the cold and dreary days serve a purpose to give us a better appreciation of the warm and hazy days when the world wraps itself around us.

    Best wishes in the contest.

    Love Margaret
