To Pen For You

Struggling for the elusive word
to tap emotions yet unheard,
I search in vain for sleeping muse.
I have not lost the will to write.
Chagrined that verses now seem trite
I rue each phrase I now peruse.
I must persist, to find a way,
to let my thoughts see light of day;
a challenge I cannot refuse.

The goal I seek in poetry
is finding the right symmetry.
Bring imagery to your mind's eye;
capture your heart with verbiage,
revise, rework an old adage
to make you soar into the sky
or sail across the seven seas.
If I can bring you to your knees,
then all I've done was worth the try.

Whenever I am feeling down
or in my mirror see a frown,
I use a pen to find release.
Thus it becomes the archer's bow
and ink dipped arrows let words flow.
Nature's a source of inner peace;
the birds and trees or ocean blue,
winged insects and morning dew,
their endless beauty will not cease.

The sun and moon, the stars and sky,
God’s works of art that beautify,
provide the boost that I require
to write a poem or simple prayer
and shed my feelings of despair.
The works of others can inspire
a catalyst for turn of phrase,
to shake me from insipid daze
with lilting language I desire.

    Excellent Nove Otto - oh but you already knew that. Form is spot on! I loved it.

    Wonderful to the prompt and so in tune to what we do here on the site. You have done a lovely job with this poem. Best of luck in the judging.

    I know Joyce is off-line for a bit, but certain she will join us again soon. We do wish much love and well wishes to Joyce and her family and look forward to her return.
