There once came from Windsor, a Duke,
Who spoke pure gobbledegook.
He offended his peers,
Was imprisoned for years,
And met with all sorts of rebuke.

Ahhh! A true limerick
Truly refreshing to see. It was in practicing limericks with a student that I saw and understood meter and rhythm (anapests and amphibachs). Plus, we had a good laugh at ourselves. Thanks for the happy share. -
LOL...
Great fun this limerick. Haven't read limericks for years. Don't know anything about the Duke of Windsor, but this is a hoot!
Great story line [I'll have to Google the Duke!]timing & perfect rhyming. All this adds up to a fine & humorous read for me. Surprised you didn't win a trophy.
I'd have given you one...here
You brought me a chuckle. I needed one today. Thanks!

I believe ...
you mean Duke of Windsor, and the only one who ever existed was Edward the VIII. Fortunately, he was nothing like your poem. He was urbane and charming and gave up the English throne to marry the woman he loved, because she was a divorcee and the country would not accept her as Queen.

Better than reading a boring history book!! If only they had been written in limerick form I wouldn't have gotten so bored with the subject!!
Good luck Limerick Queen!

excellent!
Great take on history. Sometimes history has the best material for limericks.
