The Color of Life

Missing image

The art of the ages throughout time has run
In parallel with the magnificent orb of our sun,
And among the myriad of colors in nature is found
The bright white color of light, my favorite one.

As the beautiful white seagull gracefully soars,
Multi-hued prisms reflect near sandy shores
In clear streams, opal rivers, and ancient turquoise seas,
Under a kaleidoscopic sky, wrapped in clouded mystery.

Glistening rocks wet from sheer dew of fresh dawn,
Multi-shaded skin from which humanity was spawned;
Silver lightening and strands of crystal raindrops know
To paint a canvas of blue sky in sublime, translucent rainbow.

Ancestors who walked this green valley before me,
Left behind stark echoes of their grand legacy;
In darkening shadows of grey ghosts of the past,
Their footprints may vanish, but their words will last.

Each red sunrise and glorious orange sunset,
Led adventurers along on the trail out west,
With warm, intimate moments in a lover’s embrace;
And tender innocence on a child’s hopeful face.

Transparent smoke of peace pipes and the beat of oak drums,
Carried the wisdom of Native Daughters and Sons,
Enlightening me on the long journey I've begun;
As jellybean butterflies metamorphoses from cocoons undone.

I walked on bronze sand with yellow daffodils nearby;
And saw redwood forests and white caps beneath cobalt sky,
Crimson roses, indigo peacocks, and pink cherry blossoms on trees;
With the arrival of fall came the spiral descent of autumnal leaves.

The deep purple mountain mist hides a tranquil waterfall’s flow,
While glowing embers of campfires melt white powdered snow.
Of all the shining colors in our universe, there remains only one -

When all the colors of nature blend together as one.

Author notes

Just as the combination of colors of the visible light spectrum becomes pure white,
Peace will reign on Earth when humanity destroys their arms and finally unite...

    Wow! This is just beautiful. The imagery is stunning and it puts me right into your writing. "Ancestors who walked this green valley before me,
    Left behind stark echoes of their grand legacy;
    In darkening shadows of grey ghosts of the past,
    Their footprints may vanish, but their words will last." I especialy love these lines. Nice job! Patty

    I love it!

    Hope you win! The imagery and metaphors are awesome. I love the second stanza about "kaliedescope sky." I love all colors, and I think, too, in the end all becomes white. Lovely write!
