Summer's Inspiration

The sunbeam's gleam
A steady stream
Of gentle provocation
So flowers know
Just when to grow
Without an explanation

The bees come out
And buzz about
In food appropriation
Find flowers wide
And climb inside
To cause cross-pollination

The chickadees
Build nests in trees
In earnest preparation
Feathers and sticks
To cradle chicks
Until their maturation

The geese come back
In air they tack
A lovely Vee-formation
They land once more
Just off the shore
Completing their migration

Mice scurrying
And hurrying
In lively animation
A million ants
Together dance
With pinpoint calibration

The bullfrogs croak
Their bodies soak
In green water's stagnation
As aphids hide
On underside
Of luscious vegetation

The butterfly
Goes floating by
Jogs my imagination
And all I hear
Seems to appear
In perfect orchestration

I look around
The world's abound
With great anticipation
That's all made of
The sweet, sweet love
Of Summer's inspiration

Great meter. The form is splendid. Perfectly lovely and in itself, a celebration of summer's perfection. You have captured the under life of all our fellow travelers on this earth.

Very evocative of summer. ~ Joyce

  • Beautiful

Congratulations on both trophys with this amazing poem. Just reading it makes me feel warm and long for such days as I look out the window and everything seems grey and overcast. This poem flows like the smooth honey from the bees and is a pleasure to read.

    Well done...Sue

  • Perfection.

Plusperfect ballad meter, glorious evocation of Summer. Had we written exactly what we wanted to win this first round in advance, it would have been this poem.
This is a thing of beauty and a joy forever, I can say no more than I wish I had written this. Perfection

  • I have read a few of your poems, but not commented, but I have to comment on this, My friend's Dad told me to read, it is beautiful, joyous, Summery and inspiring. The rhyme makes me want to sing, writing like this you could even get away with calling my bum magnificent.

  • This is a truly amazing poem and I am so glad that I came and looked at your page and found this.
Your words make me see a beautiful summers day and I can almost feel the heat on my shoulders as I walk through the meadow here in Scotland.
Thank you for writing this and sharing it...

By the time I got to the "chickadees" I was grinning ear to ear... I needed that after a half dozen "death poems" you are the Summer's breeze...
